Leopolds 13th century history follows below. This brief history explains how Leopold fits into his medieval world and why he has the skills he has.
Leopold Eber von Lüchtringen

Born August 30th 1250 to Henry Eber von Lüchtringen Duke of Brabant and Lüchtringen and his wife Maria. At the age of five years (1255) the family traveled on pilgrimage to the Compestella de Santaigo in Spain. Robbers attacked the wain and were driven off by the guard but not before young Leopold was abducted. The robbers were hunted so they fled into the south of Spain where they sold the child to the Moors.
Leopold showed much interest and talent in music and musical slaves were highly prized in the Arab world. He was named Khalid al-Hasan (after the house he belonged to) and sent to the best school in Bagdad where he studied Oud, Kanan, and Saz. At the age of sixteen years he is back in Spain in the household of his masters when a description of the missing boy sent out by King Alphonso X reaches the masters attention. Realizing the boy matched his prized slave he kept him for two more years, then sent word to King Alphonso X
The King notified Henry of the news and within two months in the year 1268, he was reunited with his mother and father.
Leopold continued his musical occupation at home learning new instruments and constructing them as well.
At age 21 his parents presented him with a bride matched by contract between Henry and a noble family in Brabant. A seventeen year old girl by the name of Irene Elise Brabant came to the Eber von Lüchtringen household where Leopold and Irene first meet. Leopold played Oud for her and she brought out flutes and recorders she had brought with her. The two made music together and were delighted with each other which was just as well since they were married within two days on Feburary 5th 1272.
Leopold now had two names – Khalid al-Hasan – and Leopold Eber von Lüchtringen. Both names described and defined him –
